Deba Ghoshal, who had put in his papers at LG Electronics India last month, has joined UK’s Ultra Motor Company Ltd as Director Marketing. Ultra Motors is a privately held English company, which is eyeing the Indian shores. Ghoshal, who will be based in Delhi, will report to Paul Dyson, CEO, Ultra Motors.

Commenting on his new appointment, Ghoshal said, “Ultra Motors is a great example of how new technology can bring in a paradigm shift in a mature category. There is a huge gap in the market between a bicycle and IC engine based two-wheeler. Our challenge has been to provide customers a unique EV solution to bridge this gap.”

In addition to Ghoshal, Ultra Motors has also brought in Sunil Gandhi as Director Operations from Minda Industries to strengthen its marketing push in India.

Said CEO Dyson, “We are proud to have these seasoned, strong additions to our Indian team. Sunil brings profound product development, manufacturing and logistics experience to UMC at a time when we are manufacturing our first motors and finalising the first EV launches. Deba’s experience in consumer durables and his knowledge of engine-based applications is an excellent blend and is in synergy with our business objectives. We look forward to leverage Deba’s appointment by creating a consumer face for Ultra Motors in India.”

Ultra Motors was formed in 2002 to develop and commercialise a patented permanent magnet-DC (PMDC) electric motor technology. The company is now targeting India and other countries in the Indian sub-continent to launch this technology. The two-wheeler electric vehicle being developed by UMC is expected to herald a major change in the way the Indian consumers perceive and use two-wheelers.

UMC will launch its ‘Ultra-Motors’ in the high volume scooter and bicycle business in India with contract manufacturing partners and OEM partners. The company will roll out its products in a phased manner. To begin with, UMC will launch its e-bikes in September. By next year, the company will be ready with its e-motorcycles and e-scooters.

As reported by exchange4media earlier, Ghoshal was Head, Product Marketing at LG, and was instrumental in looking after the marketing activities of the high-profile divisions of consumer electronics, IT and GSM. In his five years with the company, Ghoshal was responsible for creating and strengthening new functions like product planning and brand management at LGEIL.
